Joe Ganley
Writing code since 1979
I have been a professional software engineer for over 10 years. I have written many kinds of software, but my particular strengths are interactive graphics applications, compilers and interpreters, and algorithms.

I also enjoy writing, woodworking, and home improvement. Also this.

I just finished reading
Geeks by Jon Katz, and following that, his Hellmouth series on SlashDot (about the Columbine massacre and the resulting backlash against geeks). A dominant theme in both of these is the isolation (at best) and abuse (at worst) that geeks -- rather, nonconformists -- typically suffer in junior and high school. Very moving stuff, brought back a lot of (mostly bad) memories of my own school years. Fortunately, like many of us, I left that behind when I went to college.
